The Ritual and the Wait

By Jim "Goatroper" Poket

Dedicated, with Love, to Miranda
Merry meet and merry part and merry meet again

The altar still is standing from the ritual held last night.
He had hoped to help her passing, to guide her soul in flight.

The pentacle is littered with the crumbs of ritual bread.
The candle was extinguished when he retired to his bed.

The mortar and the pestle with pure salt are englazed.
The ritual bowl holds offerings for the Lord & Lady raised.

The Athame lays unsheathed, its power is exposed.
Her picture is presented, by his cord it is enclosed.

The incense is but a cinder; its aroma's left the air.
The water crystal's empty with salt its contents pair.

The chalice is now empty; the wine has run its course.
The ritual now is over, and he waits without remorse.
